I’m a Systems Officer working in Newfoundland Canada, spending most of my time in front of a terminal of some sort. mmmm the warm glow of an AIX terminal.

Mostly it’s all genetics based research for me so I deal with big shiny genome wide datasets consisting of several billion data points. And that’s the main reason I started this blog. You see when dealing with databases that need fast access to billions of rows of data you are… introduced to a kind of blinding agony only a Computer Scientist would enjoy. So in an effort to save others from my mistakes, I’ll try to dump out the solutions to some of the problems I encounter.
